Your Carlsbad Local Section

The ANS Carlsbad Section is the only not-for-profit scientific and educational organization to promote nuclear science and technology in southeast New Mexico and west Texas. Awarded Best Small Section in 2015, the ANS-C Section consists of approximately 60 individuals highly dedicated to improving the understanding of nuclear science and technology, appropriate applications, and potential consequences of their use.

TRUPACT-II Exhibit

The National Museum of Nuclear Science & History in Albuquerque recently upgraded their exhibits. The DOE Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) is prominently displayed, including WIPP 's TRUPACT-II, the first-of-a-kind, volume efficient Type B packaging. The Outer Containment Lid cutaway shows the elegant 'pressure cooker' lockring design. The Outer Containment Body cutaway shows a simulated drum payload.

2025 STEM Experience

 
ANS-Carlsbad presented hands-on hydrology demonstrations in the October 11, 2025 STEM Experience event. There were about 50 people presenting and over 150 attending this popular educational event at Carlsbad's Cave and Karst Institute in the new Riverwalk Center.
